Here’s a sweet slice of classic country heartbreak from a brand new band called Plains – a duo of Katie Crutchfield and Jess Williamson.

I was hooked the moment the banjo came in, then the electric guitar growling, but there’s much more – dobro, mandolin, fiddle, Wurlitzer organ and more.

It’s a sad story of a girl who feels she gives more than she gets, so she’s leaving her partner because they don’t give back enough love.

Plains are a duo made up of Katie Crutchfield – better known as Waxahatchee – and Jess Williamson who I’m guessing is no relation of Jason from Sleaford Mods.

They’re not old-fashioned country gals and they’re certainly not Nashville gals – they’re tattooed 21st century indie country gals.

And all the better for that.
