Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen come together for an emotion-packed vintage-sounding country-tinged duet.
Anyone who knows me well enough to know my musical tastes knows that Sharon Van Etten is my favourite female singer. I would probably listen happily to her singing her shopping list.
Thankfully, I will never have to because she’s so prolific; constantly collaborating with like-minded musicians when she’s not making music of her own.
Here she is singing her new song with Angel Olsen, another fabulous contemporary singer and musician. It somehow reminds me of classic torch songs from the Sixties and, simultaneously, of vintage Springsteen.
I’m not sure if it’s a particular song or just a general retro vibe – a feeling of Bacharach and Dusty and a sense of Spector in the dynamics – but Shazza has always done nostalgia so well and so evocatively.
Even the title is nostalgic.
