Sade – I Couldn’t Love You More (Mr K ft. Boyd Jarvis Remix)

10th March 2025 · 2000s, 2008, Music

Sade’s smooth song is given a glorious makeover by New York producer Danny Krivit with Boyd Jarvis’s organ solo to the fore.

I’m not naturally well disposed towards Sade because she’s the only person who ever tried to sue me in my career as a journalist.

It’s a long story and not as interesting as you’d hope, so let’s jump to the conclusion: she was trying it on. And to make matters worse, the Standard’s lawyers coughed up without even consulting me.
Still, not my money and not my reputation (such as it was).

I’ve never been naturally drawn to her music either, which always sounds to me like the soundtrack of an ’80s wine bar, a travelling salesman’s in-car sound system, or suburban smooching.

And yet… this is just fabulous.

Danny Krivit takes a pleasantly mellifluous tune (aren’t they all?) from her 1992 album Love Deluxe and gives it a jazzy makeover, which you’d expect from a guy whose mum was a jazz singer and whose dad managed legendary trumpeter Chet Baker.

The killer component is Boyd Jarvis’s two-minute organ solo that kicks it off before the beats, and the bass, propel it into another dimension for Sade to occupy.

Nearly 15 minutes of pure bliss.
