Bim One Production (ft. Junior Dread) – No Cocaine

12th May 2025 · 2010s, 2015, Music, Reggae

This old-skool reggae tune comes not from Jamaica but a Japanese production outfit – and features a toaster from Brazil.

Bim One is a Tokyo-based electronic studio specialising in what they call “world-standard sound system music” in collaboration with artists from Japan and elsewhere.

They consist of two DJ / producers: e-mura and 1TA (aka DJ 1TA-RAWO) who were both previously members of another Tokyo production outfit called PART2STYLE.

Junior Dread (aka Carlos Almeida) was born and raised in São Paulo and has collaborated with artists ranging from No Time Fe Run with Scotland’s Mungos Hi Fi and Too Much Blood A Run for our own Dubateers to US hip hop artist Chingy and Jamaica’s own Chop Chop.

He is also featured on the excellent Gorgon Sound EP with a track called Rise, and a tune called Wonderful Feeling (Dub) on the Reggae Aroma Mixtape Vol.3 by Jamaican radio DJ Yaadcore – hostess of the Reggae Aroma show on Jamaica’s Hot 102FM and official DJ of contemporary roots reggae artist Protoje (who I posted here the other day).

He made his debut in 2016 with an album called Saiba Viver coproduced by Junior Marvin: not the late Junior Murvin of Police And Thieves fame, but former guitarist with Bob Marley & The Wailers.

Bim One’s Dub Organizer EP also features British dancehall DJ Macka B (aka Christopher MacFarlane), who has collaborated over 30 years with producers including The Mad Professor.
