Swimming Pool – April

8th July 2026 · 2010s, 2019, Music

Swimming Pool come from the underground music scene of Seville in suthern Spain and play a brand of shoegazey drem-noise.

This is a first for me. I’ve played one or two artists from Spain before but I’m pretty sure this is the first band I’ve discovered from Seville. And I really like them.

They play a kind of hybrid of shoegaze, noise and dream pop, with almost folky tunes erupting into squalls of electric guitar. Which is just the kind of thing I like.

Their slender repertoire includes a great version of Beach House’s Space Song, which is a good indicator of their influences.

Formed in late 2018 by guitarist and songwriter Fran Lora (guitars and vocals), who also leads another noise-pop band, Flu Flu, the band is made up of Elena Casado (vocals), Jesús García (drums) and Alex (bass).

Their first release was a cassette-only EP in 2019, establishing the template for their woozy, dreamy, reverb-drenched sound with lead tune April.

It was followed by a second EP, titled Nothing, but as far as I can establish nothing new has been put out since then.

I see they are playing what seems to be a single date in London, at the George Tavern on 22 July, and I am tempted to brave the cauldron of heat to see them in the flesh.

They should be at home if this weather holds, seeing as Seville is officially the hottest city in Spain.
