Daft Punk – Get Lucky

23rd June 2023 · 2010s, 2013, Dance, Disco, Music

Get Lucky was one of those songs that soundtrack an entire summer, blaring out of car windows and shop doorways on the longest hottest days of 2013.

You hear about how some classic song was written during a five-minute break in a busy day (Sweet Child O’ Mine), or came to them in the shower (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun) or in a dream (Yesterday), or came about by accident while messing around at a soundcheck (Smoke On The Water).

This is the opposite.

Get Lucky took 18 months from birth to completion; a gestation period similar to an elephant. But it was well worth the wait.

Nile Rodgers met Daft Punk – aka Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo – in New York and became friends, making plans to collaborate.

That came closer after the duo met Pharrell Williams (who had remixed their tune Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, when he was part of The Neptunes ten years earlier) at a party thrown by Madonna, where they revealed their plans and Williams offered to join the project.

Nile Rodgers came up with the rhythm guitar part, with Nathan East on bass, and Chris Caswell plays keyboards alongside Daft Punk’s synths.
