Easy Star All-Stars – Time (Dub Side Of The Moon)

It’s 50 years since the release of that landmark album Dark Side Of The Moon. I think I first came across this in LA. It goes well with the sunshine and relaxed pace of life in SoCal.

If you buy the album – something I recommend – the sleeve notes offer instructions for creating a full audio-visual experience by synchronising the music to The Wizard Of Oz.

Easy Star All-Stars are a reggae collective from New York, created in 1997 by Michael Goldwasser, Eric Smith, Lem Oppenheimer and Remy Gerstein. I’m guessing they’re not Jamaican.

They have made three other reggae interpretations of classic albums – OK Computer (Radiodread), Lonely Hearts Dub Band (The Beatles) and Thrillah (Michael Jackson), featuring guest reggae stars on vocals.

They regularly tour Dub Side Of The Moon, which has sold close to 100,000 copies, and released a DVD of a live performance, as well as a bass-heavy version, Dubber Side Of The Moon, featuring remixes by the likes of Adrian Sherwood, Dreadzone and The Mad Professor.
