Frazey Ford – Done

12th December 2024 · 2010s, 2014, Country, Music

This powerfully emotional feminist anthem works like a sequel to Dolly’s Nine To Five, with a video to match.

Frazey Ford revives that classic southern country-soul sound that was once synonymous with Memphis and Muscle Shoals, though she comes from far further north in Canada.

She first came to attention on the Americana circuit in the Noughties as one-third of the Vancouver alt-folk trio The Be Good Tanyas before launching a solo career in 2010 with an album titled after her middle name, Obadiah.

The Tanyas were a blend of old-timey folk, blend country, blues, and pop, with all three members singing and songwriting and Ford playing guitar and (occasionally) mandolin.

She dialled up the soul and R&B influences on her 2014 album Indian Ocean, recorded between Memphis and Vancouver and featuring Al Green’s legendary Hi Rhythm Section as her backing band, from which this song is taken.
