Hot Chocolate – So You Win Again

20th May 2026 · 1970s, 1977, Music

Hot Chocolate’s only No.1 sums up my joyful feelings this morning after the league title returned to North London for the first time in 22 years.

Not just because of the song title, which is surely addressed to the Arsenal, but for the middle eight: “When will my heartache end? Will my whole life depend on fading memories?”

These are questions many of my fellow Arsenal fans, especially the ones too young to remember the Invincibles team of 2004, have been asking themselves all season (and for a long time before that).

Well the heartache is over. At least for a year. No more bottle and bridesmaid memes, no more taunts of “Second again, Olé Olé!” No more fat City losers swigging Arsenal fans’ tears.

Meanwhile, the heartache goes on – at least for another five days – for fns of that other North London team, who can only watch our celebrations in their own misery, while awaiting their final fate.

I recognisde that it would be churlish, and unnecessary, to dwell on others’ misfortunes while celebrating one’s own triumphs. At least it would be, were schadenfreude not the defining emotion of football victory.

So here is Errol Brown, singing the only song to top the charts for Hot Chocolate – dedicated to the Premier League winners of 2025-26.

Champions again, Olé Olé!
