I’m not sure where I stumbled across this funky slice of contemporary blues with undertones of the Sopranos theme song.

With its rumbling bass and funky backbeat, wailing harmonica and squealing guitar, not to mention the growling vocal, it reminds me of the Sopranos theme by Alabama 3.

Blues Soup appeared on a 2012 compilation called Electro Blues on the electro swing label Freshly Squeezed. And it’s the standout tune, bringing a 21st century twist to the tried and trusted formula of the blues.

They run club nights in London and Brighton and curate stages at festivals including Glastonbury, Womad, Bestival and Meadowlands.

And that’s all I can tell you; I don’t even know how you say their name. Which is fine, because the whole point is to listen to it.
