I make no apology for adding another song by Mungo Jerry because this boisterous blues-based rock’n’roll extravaganza is just fantastic.
While we all remember In The Summertime (and Ray Dorset’s spectacular sideburns), it’s tempting to think of them as one-hit wonders but Mungo Jerry had loads of other hits in the early Seventies.
This was its rollicking follow-up which followed it to No.1 in March that year – eventually – after a postal strike that saw it drop right out of the charts before coming back again.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a group enjoying themselves as much as Ray and the boys, and their infectious enthusiasm is impossible not to share on this 12-bar blues jamboree.
