Shannon – Let The Music Play

29th November 2024 · 1980s, 1983, Dance, Disco, Music

Is this classic late-period disco? Or is it prototype ’80s dance-pop? Frankly, who cares when it sounds like this?!

Let The Music Play was Shannon’s debut single in 1983. One critic described its electro rhythm, driven by synth bass, as a cross between Gary Numan and Latin star Tito Puente.

This was the only UK hit for Washington DC-born Brooklyn-raised Shannon, who started out singing with the New York Jazz Ensemble.

but her debut album sold 1.5 million copies and she’s still in circulation in the USA.
