Sissy Spacek – Sepsis

Sissy Spacek is an LA-based duo who make experimental avant-garde noise and is not related to the actress of the same name.

When I say I’m not familiar with Sissy Spacek, I’m not talking about the actress who starred in Badlands and Carrie. I know her, and I’m a fan.

I’m talking about the LA-based experimental duo of John Wiese and Charlie Mumma who churn out albums at an outlandishly rapid rate – by my count they’ve released 59 so far since they formed in 2000.

Their glitchy, squelchy, noisy, abrasive, dissonant musique concrète is not for all ears, that’s for sure, and you might not listen to all 59 albums in one go; or even (let’s be honest) one of them.

In small doses, though – and they have released numerous tracks of 10 seconds or even less in length, I find them cathartically cleansing, such as on this number Sepsis.

Like its titular ailment, it’s nasty and unpleasant – though not necessarily fatal.
