Téléphone – Hygiaphone

18th February 2023 · 1970s, 1977, Music, Punk

All I really remember about Téléphone is that they were French and that I have a single made of red vinyl in the shape of (you guessed) a telephone.

Unfortunately the song, La Bombe Humaine, was  awful – though it was a huge hit in France, becoming “a generational anthem” (it says here), and turned them into superstars.

Incredibly, if what I read is true, Téléphone (formed from the ashes of a band called Sémolina) went on to become France’s most successful rock band of all time, allegedly selling more than 10 million albums.

In their day (late 70s/early 80s) they toured with Eddie & The Hot Rods, supported Television and opened for The Rolling Stones in France, America and Japan.

This thinly veiled (well, unveiled really) Chuck Berry pastiche was their debut single. It’s unoriginal, derivative rubbish.
