The Allergies – Be With You

When I first heard The Allergies I assumed they must be some long-lost American band from the early seventies. In fact they are a white duo from Bristol.

DJ Moneyshot and Rackabeat – with a passing resemblance to Kurupt FM’s DJ Beats and Grindah from People Just Do Nothing – have only been making music for a decade or so.

Since forming in 2012 The Allergies have made it their mission “to reshape funky vintage sounds for the modern dancefloor” and I think you’ll agree this fat groove, borrowing the bassline from Odyssey’s 1980 hit Don’t Tell Me, Tell Her, does exactly that.

Both skilled turntablists in their own right, the duo first bonded over their love of classic hip-hop and beats before decidiing to pool their production knowledge and remixing skills into making their own music.

Along the way they’ve racked up two ‘Tune of the Month’ awards in Mixmag, topped digital charts and helped headline the BBC 6 Music festival in their native Bristol last year.

In 2015 they were snapped up by Jalapeno Records and this appeared on their first EP, Kicking Up Dust, followed a year later by debut album, As We Do Our Thing, showcasing their blend of funk, soul, disco, hip-hop and breakbeats.
