The Pack – King Of Kings

2nd August 2023 · 1970s, 1978, Music, Punk

Here’s a cracking rarity from the tail end of punk by The Pack. Built around a cracking guitar riff and a pounding rhythm, the dramatic vocals are by future Theatre Of Hate / Spear Of Destiny star Kirk Brandon.

Originally called Pack Of Lies, The Pack were formed in South London in 1978 by Brandon, two Canadian brothers – John and Simon Werner – on bass and guitar respectively – and drummer Rab Fae Beith.

The first of their two singles was called Heathen but they hit their stride with this, the second one – the A-side is King Of Kings – with its portentous spoken vocal section – and the equally impressive B-side is a song called Number 12.

The Pack reunited in 2019 to play their first gigs in 40 years, sadly without Simon Werner, who died in 2010.
