Sparks return with what might be their best video yet for the opening song of their 28th studio album.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first time I saw Sparks in their Glam Rock glory at Taunton Odeon.
I don’t think Do Things My Own Way is one of Sparks’s best songs – but this is characteristically quirky video is definitely one of their best.
“We hope this video, even in a very small way, finally starts a meaningful dialogue about the dangers of pianos falling out of tall buildings,” they say.
At one point in the video we even get that rarest of sights – Ron smiling.
Directed in their hometown of LA by Ambar Navarro, it’s the first taste of their 28th studio album due later this year, aptly entitled Mad!
Seeing them at the Royal Albert Hall in 2023 remains one of my all-time favourite gigs, and my astonishment remains undimmed that these two brothers in their late 70s (Ron hits 80 in August) can continue to play and perform with such energy and enthusiasm.
