Lambrini Girls – Cuntology 101

7th May 2025 · 2020s, 2025, Music, Punk

I’ve never been able to make up my mind whether I like the Lambrini Girls for their shouty punk energy or hate them, probably for the same reason.

Some say they’re fake but I’m not sure what that even means in this day and age when everything references something else because everything new has been done before. And I really don’t care where they went to school or what their parents do.

Anyway, hats off to them for coming up with what must surely be a contender for the sweariest song ever. And hats off to the YouTube commenter who wrote: “I’m 95 in hospice and I think we need more of this energy in today’s music scene.”

Thinking on it for a little longer, perhaps I’m suspicious about the girls’ combination of outspoken feminist anger and skimpy clothing.

While I applaud them for their right to wear whatever they want, I can’t help feeling their ‘look’ has a lot to do with the attention they’ve managed to get in the media, which is rather more than might be justified by the music alone.

Then again, I’m sure they couldn’t care less what I, or other blokes, think about their style. And this song, reclaiming a word that many women dislike intensely when used as an insult, is nothing if not funny and clever.

And we all like funny and clever, don’t we.

Fair play to them for ‘playing’ the male media. It’s still a man’s man’s man’s man’s world and a gal’s gotta do what a gal’s gotta do. And they do what they do with spirit.
