New Australian quartet Bleak Squad make their debut with a dark and doom-laden slice of gothic noir called Lost My Head.
To call Bleak Squad a supergroup might be pushing it unless you’re a close observer of the Melbourne music scene. But they are certainly super, to use that long-lost superlative.
This is their first single, a brooding gothic noir affair filled with an ominous atmosphere filled with bursts of fuzz guitar, haunting vocals and apocalyptic lyrics. And a video to match.
Bleak Squad comprises vocalist Adalita (Magic Dirt), bass guitarist and co-vocalist Mick Harvey (The Birthday Party, The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey), guitarist Mick Turner (Dirty Three) and drummer Marty Brown (Art Of Fighting).
They came together after Brown floated the idea of collaborating with the others back in 2019. Since then they have jammed and recorded ideas when schedules allowed, each member bringing songs and riffs of their own.#
Lost My Head was their first single, released in June, though they had previously put out a free download of a song called Everything Must Change a month earlier; the album Strange Love has just been released.
