The Saints – Judas

Here’s another tune from Long March Through The Jazz Age, the forthcoming final album by The Saints.

It’s a melancholic 12-string jangle accompanied by Chris Bailey’s familiar laconic drawl, making it a wistful last will and testament from a great singer and lyricist.

Pete Wilkinson, the band’s long-time drummer, remembers the pleasure of transforming Bailey’s final batch of rough demos into finished songs for a posthumous album.

“When it came to recording vocals, Chris Bailey saved the best until last,” he says. “His lyrical prowess is well known to those familiar with The Saints, new and old, but these recordings offer a new-found depth and breadth to his voice that surpass anything I had heard before.”

“Sometimes I feel the sun going down / When the moon’s in my eyes I am floating,” he sings. “High above the world it shines / I’m entranced by the emotion.”

It’s lovely and there’s nothing more to say.
