Beth Orton teams up with Terry Callier to perform a duet of the classic song Dolphins, written by Fred Neil and popularised by Tim Buckley.
How have I never heard this before?! One of my all-time favourite songs, I love the versions by Fred Neil and Tim Buckley, and here’s another wonderful one.
Recorded in 1997 by Terry Callier and Beth Orton, it’s just beautiful. Even though the recorded version that appeared on her Best Bits EP features the dreaded “vibes” that normally send me running for the hills.
I far prefer the version they performed together on Later… With Jools, which I used to watch avidly, before it became a fast-forward activity in recent years.
And back when Jools stayed in his lane and made tastefully restrained contributions to his guests’ performances, rather than trying to take them over with his compulsive boogie-woogieing.
