CMAT resolves her differences with the Naked Chef to share the spotlight with him in a new video for The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station.
I’ve never shared the widespread view of Jamie Oliver that seems to be held by a large number of my friends – and CMAT – with much of their mockery seeming to focus on his cheeky chappie persona (and a slight lisp).
It always seemed to me he had a heart of gold and a burning desire to combat obesity – this country’s biggest killer – and spread the word of simple, tasty food to people, like schoolchildren who might grow up to cook it.
Plus the fact he takes animal welfare seriously, promotes sustainable eating, and his philanthropic project Fifteen that gave disadvantaged young people a head start in the catering industry.
Nonetheless, lots of people don’t like him, and those people seemed to include CMAT… until now.
The Irish chanteuse has a song called The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station that finds her coming across his salads and sandwiches, branded with his cheery face, in (yep) a petrol station and singing: “I needed deli but God I hate him!”
Poor Jamie, who was once the drummer in a band called Scarlet Division, was crestfallen, as you might expect – until his daughters and her friends told him they all loved it.
Not least, I imagine, because the lyrics go on to add: “OK don’t be a bitch, Ther man’s got kids and they wouldn’t like this.”
Apparently they did. And now Jamie is appearing in her new video for that very same song, after she invited him to take part.
In return, he let her use his newly revived Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Leicester Square for the shoot, with the singer and her Very Sexy CMAT Band performing in a Sixties-style TV studio and Jamie doing what he does best – slaving away in the kitchen.
And yes, he did feed CMAT and her band and crew afterwards.
