Revolting Cocks – Attack Ships On Fire

Revolting Cocks paid tribute to Blade Runner in the Chicago band’s thunderous party anthem Attack Ships On Fire.

“Someone somewhere wake me up!” Putting this on the stereo would surely do the trick. Fans of Blade Runner will recognise the title – Attack Ships On Fire – from Rutger Hauer’s iconic “Tears of rain” death soliloquy at the finale of the 1982 film.

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe,” recalls his replicant character Batty, in a speech improvised by the actor. “Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion…

“I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”

Attack Ships On Fire is as close as Revolting Cocks ever came to a party anthem, especially in live shows like this – and one of their few songs with vocals.

The group itself started life as a side project of Ministry’s Al Jourgensen in the mid-’80s, fusing industrial, electronica and hip-hop loops and samples to create the danceable hybrid dubbed EBM – electro body music.

At its best, on tracks like this and Big Sexy Land, their debut single (and album title), it’s irresistible.
