Cindy Lee – Dracula

22nd January 2026 · 2020s, 2024, Music

Cindy Lee is the alter ego and stage name of Canadian musician Patrick Flegel, and this is from his acclaimed album Diamond Jubilee.

This eerie dreamlike tune and equally mysterious video came to me out of nowhere, thanks to the algorithm. And I’m very glad it did.

Its blend of crackly ’50s pop and lo-fi ambience, laid-back funk and synthesised strings saturated in psychedelia, make it sound like a movie soundtrack, and that movie would most probably have been made by David Lynch,

Cindy Lee is not so much a band as the one-man project of Patrick Flegel, who performs in drag in his alter ego of Cindy Lee, but blurs boundaries by using male pronouns. That’s him as Cindy in the video.

Formerly in a noise rock band called Women (with his brother Matt), this song comes from Flegel’s seventh long player, a triple album called Diamond Jubilee that came out in 2024 and received widespread praise.

Following the breakup of Women in 2012 after the death of guitarist Chris Reimer, Flegel collaborated with Morgan Cook in a band called Androgynous Mind.

That evolved into Cindy Lee, with Flegel recording music primarily alone but continuing to perform with a rotating roster of supporting musicians.

Unusually, the Diamond Jubilee album was initially only released digitally – through Flegel’s own website and YouTube channel – with listeners invited to send payment in return for free streaming (without ads).
