Gamith – Darkness

15th May 2025 · 1970, 1970s, Funk, Music

This funky deep cut comes from one of those niche soul compilations, called Carolina Funk: Funk 45s From The Atlantic Coast. It’s the only known release by Gamith.

In their US homeland Gamith (what does that terrible name mean?!) probably remain obscure 55 years after their small contribution to music history, released in 1970 on JSJ Records.

But over the years their solitary single, Don’t Change Me b/w Darkness, has become a sought-after item among a new generation of soul enthusiasts in the UK. For me, the B-side is the better tune.

So who are – or were – Gamith? Absolutely no idea. But this is great.
