Ghost Woman make the kind of atmospheric, moody music that instantly appeals to me – slow and spacey, trippy and twangy, jangly and hazy.

When I first heard it I thought I was listening to the Brian Jonestown Massacre, or some obscure Sixties band from one of those Nuggets compilations.

But it’s not them, and it’s not a band from the ’60s – it’s a contemporary Canadian neo-psychedelicist called Evan Uschenko who goes by Ghostwoman.

Over the years he’s played as a sideman in various Canadian bands before branching out as a solo act (initially spelt Ghost Woman) in 2022 on the British label Full Time Hobby.

He had a bit of bad luck along the way. First his rehearsal space caught fire and then whatever gear wasn’t burned was later stolen from his van.
