Immersion – Use It Don’t Lose It
24th January 2026 · UncategorisedImmersion is an experimental electronic and sound-art duo comprised of Colin Newman from Wire and his wife Malka Spigel.
The throbbing pulse and laconic vocals of this song, Use It Don’t Lose It, immediately conjure memories of post-punk pioneers Wire at their finest. No surprise, then, to find that the vocalist is indeed Colin Newman of that very band.
She’s the co-founder of the Israeli post-punk band Minimal Compact, who trod a similar path to Wire in the early ’80s after moving from Tel Aviv to Amsterdam, and then Belgium.
Newman and Spigel, who plays bass, also perform together as Githead alongside electronic maestro Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner) and drummer Max Franken (ex-Minimal Compact).
Newman says this song, with a video shot by their son Ben, is “an expression of us both together, saying the same thing for ourselves and for others. The words are so direct they need no explanation. Anyone could join in with the chanting!”
Use It Don’t Lose It, also featuring drummer Matt Schulz (Lake Ruth, SAVAK), is driven by its minimalist krautrock undercurrent and insistent melodic to create an invigorating slice of post-punk pop noir.
It’s taken from the group’s new album WTF??
