Leon Bridges teams up with dance trio Jungle on a slice of uplifting summer soul infused with the sound of Afro jazz and funk.

This song sways like a warm summer breeze, and has the same invigorating effect with its vibrant Afro beats, punchy trumpet lines, and sax solo.

The breezy blend of pop-funk is a change of pace and a change of style for Leon Bridges, previously more associated with melancholy retro soul.

It’s more like the song he first came to my ears with, the similarly summery Khruangbin collaboration Texas Sun.

A native Texan, Bridges has been recording for more than a decade, winning several Grammy nominations – and a win – for what the awards called “traditional R&B”.

His Khruangbin collab was far from his first; he has also recorded with artists from country singer Kacey Musgraves to rapper Macklemore and Avalanches.

Never one to stay in his lane, he made his early recordings with a member of the rock band White Denim, and has subsequently covered both Bob Marley and Neil Young.

He says he hopes this sun-soaked song, produced by J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of British trio Jungle, will be a balm for anyone feeling burned out, and an antidote to the anxiety we live in today.
