The Godfather of Soul’s backing band came up with the ultimate party tune Cross The Track (We Better Go Back) in 1975 – and never looked back.

Maceo and the Macks might be an unfamiliar name, but only because it’s one of many alter egos of James Brown’s backing band The J.B.’s.

Cross The Track (We Better Go Back) is one of THE great party tune; it’s one of the funkiest tunes ever to come out of Funkville.

And no wonder, with two legendary saxmen, Maceo Parker and Pee Wee Ellis playing in tandem, arranged jointly by Maceo and Fred Wesley, and produced by James Brown himself.

Here’s the extended version because, well, who wouldn’t want it to go on longer when the joint is already jumpin’.
