Maisy Owen – On My Way Down

24th March 2026 · 2020s, 2026, Country, Music

Maisy Owen is a young singer-songwriter from Nashville, who plays finger picked guitar and has earned comparisons to some of the folk greats.

I’m going to take a chance here because at the time of posting I’ve never heard this song. Not even once. I’m judging it purely on intuition.

Maisy Owen is 23, born and raised in Nashville, drives a pick-up truck and her debut album is on the ever reliable folk label Tompkins Square. Which is enough of a recommendation for me.

Like most of their artists she plays fingerpicked guitar, and has been compared with several folk greats: Bert Jansch and Nick Drake, Vashti Bunyan and Anne Briggs.

That again would already be more than enough to pique my interest, even without added comparisons to Mazzy Star and Sharon Van Etten – two of my all-time favourite female artists.

Drawn to melancholic melodies and dark poetic imagery – once again very much my wheelhouse – Maisy’s first single My Youth Is All For You gave her a chance to explore her visual side (and love for abandoned houses) with an accompanying video.

This is her second single and video, On My Way Down. I hope you like it… and I hope I like it!
