Cinnamon Horses is my favourite song from a lot of favourites on Wild God, the new album by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

I’m a long-time Cave fan, ever since I saw The Birthday Party back in 1981, though I would have been surprised to learn he was still alive – let alone filling arenas – 43 years later.

I admired his last few albums without ever really loving them – they seemed like the product of an inward grieving process he had to go through rather than records for other people to listen to.

But this one hits me right in the heart. The grief is still there, but it’s turned outwards to joy, euphoria, ecstasy. And it’s filled with glorious tunes that you can actually hum.

None more so than this one.
