Sophie Thatcher not only co-stars in Heretic but contributes this gorgeous cover of Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door to the soundtrack.
When this song played over the closing credits of Heretic, I thought I must be listening to Mazzy Star. I was wrong.
Turns out this haunting version of Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door is by one of the film’s two young female stars, Sophie Thatcher.
I love Dylan’s original and can still remember hearing it soundtrack that devastating post-massacre scene in Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid.
Thatcher, who released a solo EP of experimental dream pop called Pivot & Scrape last month, contributes a gorgeous take on the song, with plenty of mournful pedal steel guitar.
As for the film, I loved it, and would say it’s Hugh Grant’s finest performance as a sinisterly avuncular fellow who invites two innocent Mormon missionaries into his home.
Let’s just say they get more than they bargained for from their latest would-be convert, including a theology lesson they will surely never forget.
