The Exits – Under The Street Lamp

16th August 2022 · 1960s, 1967, Music, Soul

I was not sure which side to post of this Northern Soul favourite because both have their champions. I’m going with Under The Street Lamp because that was the A-side that gave them a minor hit in 1967.

The Exits recorded these classic songs in Los Angeles and found success in releasing them on Pittsburgh’s Gemini label, charting at No.34 in the R&B chart.

I’m not sure if they recorded any other tunes but this one, a tribute to the street-corner doo-wop groups of the 1950s (where they first sang) left its mark.

It can be found on several compilations of rare groove and if you’re lucky enough to find an original 45, it’ll probably cost you (or make you) a three-figure sum.
