The Jovialetts – T’ain’t No Big Thing

31st October 2022 · 1960s, 1966, Music, Soul

The rarest of rare grooves, T’Ain’t No Big Thing was the only single by The Jovialetts. Who were they? A vocal girl group of the mid-1960s. Beyond that… who knows.

I can hear the influences of James Brown and Martha Reeves & The Vandellas; not so evident on the B-side, a sweet song called Say, Hey There.

Both sides are written and produced by Joe Brown & Chuck Henley and it was released in 1966 on the Josie label – a subsidiary of Jubilee Records in New York.

Josie Records began life as a doo-wop label in the mid-1950s, morphed into a soul specialist in the early 1960s and was making hard funk by the end of the decade.

This is just one of the many major and minor gems in its catalogue.
