These two tunes, recorded in Hydra and Hamburg and combined in a single video shot between Barcelona and their native Manchester, find them exploring new territory, both geographically and aurally.
Wade’s elictate guitar figures, Sidonie Hand-Halford’s skittering drums and her bassist sister Esmé’s fragile reverb-drenched vocal create an unsettling calm before the songs open up to evoke a dark euphoria drenched in feedback and noise.
It would take a page to list all the influences that have been evident in The Orielles’ four albums to date.
Briefly, from beginnings inspired by the abrasive guitar noise of Sonic Youth, they’ve moved briskly through disco funk, electronica, African high-life, techno and dream pop. And now this.
