When the sun comes out, as it finally has (and not before bloody time), there is little I would rather listen to than some desert blues from Mali.

And there are few Malian musicians I would choose ahead of Vieux Farka Touré, known as “the Hendrix of the Sahara” for his virtuosic guitar playing. Apart from his dad, the great Ali Farka Touré.

So I’m delighted to find a new single by the confusingly named “Old” Farka Touré, by the name of Flany Konare. It has a shimmering groove, an intricate guitar figure, and a romantic lyric reminding us all to make time for love.

The kaleidoscopic video was created by UK-based animators Double Vision and Malian photographer Kiss Diouara and the tune comes from Touré’s forthcoming album Les Racines, his first for five years, released on the World Circuit label on 10 June.
