Watch The Ride x Nia Archives – Mash Up The Dance

10th July 2022 · Uncategorised

Every year there’s a song of the summer that somehow creeps into your consciousness and stays there til the sunshine starts to fade. This year the first contender for me is Mash Up The Dance.

When I think back to songs like Daft Punk’s Get Lucky and even further back to Underworld’s Born Slippy, I remember hearing them out of every car window, every doorway.

I’m no expert on the jungle genre, and it’s a long time since I last listened to the likes of Roni Size and Goldie, but this tune is as infectious as a new Covid variant.

Listening to it lifts my spirits the moment its skittering rave beats begin, and then takes them higher when Nia (who is a young producer and DJ from Bradford) starts to sing.

I love it, I guess, because it has a flavour of reggae thanks to her Jamaican accent and because the beats are irresistible, especially when you’re at the wheel of a car on a summer’s day.

Watch The Ride are a jungle/D&B supergroup comprising Randall, DJ Die and Dismantle, who got together with Nia Archives to make this tune bridging the gap between modern and old-skool jungle.

Nia directed the video herself with Geeneus, founder of London community radio station Rinse FM.
