New York noisemongers Bush Tetras are back, and making the same sort of primal racket they always did – despite the death of drummer Dee Pop last year.

Bird On A Wire comes from their forthcoming first LP in 11 years and their first featuring the band’s new full time drummer, Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth, who stepped in to fill the shoes of the Lower East Side legend and founding member of the band Dee Pop after his death in 2021.

They Live in My Head, recorded by Shelley with the two remaining original members – singer Cynthia Sley and guitarist Pat Place – will only be the band’s third album since their formation in 1979, but they have written songs together and performed live for decades.

“We thought a lot about memories from 1979 in New York City.” says vocalist Cynthia Sley, “It’s a reflection of growing up together, what we were eating, what we were doing, weird little things people probably won’t get. But that’s cool.”
